You sit down at your desk.
Slurp your coffee.
Take a deep breath and open your computer.
Maybe you check your email, facebook, read a blog post or two. All of a sudden an hour has gone by. And you've done nothing.
I struggled with this for a long time. I ended many days thinking "What the hell did I do today?!"
Somewhere along the way, I read about the following technique. I started using it and have had many of my clients use it as well. I've seen huge return from this tweak in my day.
Before you do anything else for the day, ask yourself "What is the 1 most important thing I need to get done today."
Write it down and get to work.
That is it.
Before I open my computer and dig into my day I declare what my most important thing is and then I work on that first. By declaring this BEFORE you open your computer, you are the one in control of creating your plan for the day. Don't let other people be in control of your time.
By picking the thing that is most important to move my business forward I create focus and a deadline. I am a natural born procrastinator so deadlines help me take action.
One thing doesn't seem like much but think about doing that every day for a month. All of a sudden you've been focused everyday on moving your business in the direction you want it to go.
And now you're starting to get traction and on your way to achieving your goals.
And that is what it is all about.
